Carbon Reduction Plan

1. Our commitment to Net Zero

Taten Care Ltd is publicly committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse-gas emissions across its UK operations by 2045. This target is five years earlier than the UK Government’s 2050 deadline used in the current Carbon Reduction Plan procurement standard.

We provide person-centred support to adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities and autism. We recognise that delivering high-quality care also requires responsible use of energy, travel, materials and services. We are therefore taking practical steps to measure, manage and reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions associated with our operations and supply chain.

Our approach is to reduce emissions first and use credible, independently verified removals only for any small residual emissions that cannot reasonably be eliminated by 2045. Progress will be reviewed by senior management and reported publicly each year.

2. Organisational and reporting boundary

The plan covers Taten Care Ltd’s UK operations using the operational-control approach. The 2026 baseline includes Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and the required subset of Scope 3 sources for Carbon Reduction Plans: upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and downstream transportation and distribution.

Emissions are expressed as tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e). Calculations use activity data available to the business and the applicable UK Government greenhouse-gas conversion factors. The calculation method, assumptions and source records will be retained so that future years can be compared consistently with the 2026 baseline.

3. Baseline emissions footprint

2026 is Taten Care Ltd’s first formal baseline year. The baseline is the fixed reference point against which future reductions will be measured.

Data-quality note: The 14.400 tCO₂e figure is retained from Taten Care Ltd’s 2026 baseline. Before each annual publication, the organisation will reconcile underlying travel, commuting, waste, utility and supplier records and explain any recalculation of the baseline.

4. Reduction pathway to 2045

Taten Care Ltd will pursue both absolute emissions reductions and, where useful, carbon-intensity indicators such as emissions per care hour or per £1,000 turnover. Absolute emissions remain the primary measure for the Net Zero commitment.

5. Actions already in place

• Digital working practices have reduced routine paper use; electronic records and virtual meetings are used where appropriate and consistent with information-governance and care requirements.
• Public transport is promoted for business journeys, rail is preferred to air travel for UK long-distance journeys, and remote meetings are used when an in-person meeting is not necessary.
• Visit planning and route optimisation are used to reduce avoidable mileage while protecting continuity, punctuality and the needs of people receiving support.
• Biodegradable PPE aprons are purchased where clinically appropriate, safe and commercially available.
• Environmental awareness is included in staff learning and communications, including relevant sustainable-healthcare resources.
• Suppliers are asked about environmental policies and carbon reduction during review and selection, proportionate to the goods or services being procured.
• Tree-planting and local environmental activities have been supported; these activities are reported separately and are not used to claim operational emissions reductions unless verified.

7. Governance, monitoring and continuous improvement

The Board of Directors is accountable for this plan. Operational leads will maintain evidence, review progress at least annually, and escalate material gaps or missed milestones. The annual review will:

• compare actual Scope 1, Scope 2 and required Scope 3 emissions with the 2026 baseline and interim milestones;
• explain material changes in organisational boundary, calculation method or data quality;
• record completed measures, quantified savings where evidence allows, and actions for the following year;
• confirm that the measures described in this plan can be applied, where relevant, during delivery of tendered contracts; and
• be approved by the Board, signed by an authorised director and published prominently on the Taten Care Ltd website.

8. Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with the current UK Government technical standard for Carbon Reduction Plans under PPN 006. For procurements commenced under the previous regime, it also follows the reporting approach established by PPN 06/21.

Taten Care Ltd confirms its commitment to achieving Net Zero greenhouse-gas emissions across its UK operations by 2045. The emissions boundary includes Scope 1, Scope 2 and the required subset of Scope 3 sources. The plan will be reviewed at least annually, approved by the Board of Directors and published on the company’s UK website.

The environmental management measures set out above are in place or planned for implementation and, where relevant, will be applied during the performance of contracts.
